- Llandyrnog & District Village Clubs Summer Football League round up for the season 2004
Summer League Review - Season 2004 |
As another season in the Summer League has drawn to a close attention can be focused on Winter League football which
will get under way during the next fortnight. Many Summer League players - after the very briefest of breaks - will
become involved with such clubs as Denbigh, Ruthin, Llandyrnog, Trefnant, Bala and Connah's Quay - to name just a
few sides - and we wish them every success in their new campaigns.
Honours in the Summer League this past season were shared between four sides. Llanrhaeadr were the Champions,
by the narrowest margin possible (just 1 goal) with Rhewl being the unfortunate side to have to settle for the
Runners-Up position.
Trefnant confounded all tipsters in the Shield Competition. They battled their way through to the final by beating
first Nantglyn and then Caerwys - sides placed 3rd and 4th respectively in the league. In the final they came up
against Henllan and once again Trefnant were the "under-dogs". Once again they confounded everyone by beating Henllan 2-1.
They opened the scoring after 10 minutes through Steve Seville and it was the same player who notched their second goal
near the end of the match. Henllan had been searching for a goal throughout the match but they had to wait until the
85th minute before Rob Jennings opened their account. They then put the Trefnant goal under seige for the remaining
few minutes but they failed to add to their score.
The Championship Shield and various trophies were presented by the League President, R. Emlyn Jones, Denbigh.
In the very last match of the season the Champions, Llanrhaeadr, were beaten 3-2 by a "Rest XI" which consisted of
mainly young players. The Behrens Cup was presented to Llanrhaeadr at the end of the match by League Chairman,
Tudor Jones, Ruthin.
We are pleased to have received so many favourable comments on our regular bulletins and promise to provide the same
specialist service next year. Meanwhile Summer League followers may wish to broaden their horizons by looking for
