Managing School Places
The County Council has set itself the county wide task of rationalising school places and dealing with 'surplus'
places by 2006. There is serious overcrowding at present in the coastal areas but more than 1500 unfilled places at
schools in the remainder of the county.
Consultation is already under way in the Denbigh area and this has involved
meetings with Teachers, School Governors and Parents.
The process of consultation will then extend to other parts of Denbighshire. If the timetable does not over-run,
the whole exercise should be completed by December 2004 and the Cabinet will then have the responsibility of deciding
how to address the problems with which the county is now faced. Solutions could include the merger of two or more
schools; "Clustering"; building new schools; extension of existing premises; and even closure. Regular progress reports will be provided.
